Notes of a lover in Italy

Naples is a completely unusual city. It is like a cake “Count ruins”, which the mad culinary specialist decorated with cream roses. The whole city is a magnificent mountain, surrounded by greenery, houses on which are located like notes on paper – up-down, up-down.

From the view of the local ancient architecture is breathtaking. It just seems that the whole story has long been known, here it is in the palm of your hand, only reach out your hand. But no. They gathered in Naples to build a metro, and found the ancient city underground. Plans for the subway have been forgotten and postponed, and archaeologists have begun to replace the builders. Where to rush when the story wakes up?

The micro-atmosphere of the city was concentrated in the center, between the incomparable Gallery of Umberto and the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola. Inspecting the city, I advise you to look into the Gambrinus cafe, which has already become a legend. Only here you can taste the most delicious svoliatella (an envelope of puff pastry with cottage cheese, ricotto and nutmeg) and drink divinely delicious Neapolitan coffee.

By the way, in the very center of Naples you will see something reminiscent of Russia. In front of the gates to the Royal Palace are sculptures of horses by Klodt, analogues of those located in St. Petersburg.

Visiting the hobbits

You can travel from Naples in two directions. The first is to go on a boat to the island of Ischia. This route is usually chosen by tourists who dream to enjoy the beauty of nature, to be in solitude and to improve their well-being, because Ischia can rightfully be called one big SPA center. You will not find so many thermal springs as here. They say that there is no “ordinary” water on the island, and even thermal water flows from the tap. The effect is evident … and on the face after 2 days – the color and condition of the skin improves significantly, the hair gains shine and strength.

Well, those who want to take care of their health closely go to the largest thermal park on the island of Poseidon Gardens. There are 22 pools with healing water, the temperature of which varies from 15 to 40 degrees. It’s worth going to the park for the whole day, I assure you you won’t be bored. After all, in addition to swimming, you can relax under the water massage jets, get rid of toxins in natural saunas or try the Kneipp technique on yourself, the essence of which is a sharp change in hot and cold water. “Three minutes in water +40, and then 15 seconds in a pool of water + 15 … and so on three times. It is almost as good as sex! ”- Svetlana, our guide, assured us. Indeed, those who withstood the atrocious changes in temperature, stretched out in bliss on the sunbeds and for a few minutes forgot about everything in the world.

After such a day of relaxation, you can already think about exploring the sights of Ischia, among which you just need to see the Aragonese castle and the church of Soccorso. But the strongest impression is made by residential buildings, hollowed right in the stone. Outwardly, these are real hobbit homes – semicircular windows shining with glass in green tuff, potted flowers near a fabulous wooden door … Most of these houses, by the way, ordinary people live in, can be found in Forio. In addition to educational excursions, you will probably be offered to visit a winery and taste local wines (you should not refuse, the wines on Ischia are really high-quality and tasty). After an active pastime, the most pleasant thing is to go to the warm beaches washed by transparent waves.

In the shadow of Vesuvius

The second way from Naples – by bus (car, motor) through Pompeii to Sorrento. The road to Pompeii is interesting in itself. Firstly, driving along it, you will see how the quarters of the city differ among themselves: in which wealthy Italians live, and in which – simpler families. Having left the city, traces of the eruption of Vesuvius are visible on both sides of the road, lava has frozen on the stones.

Now it’s ridiculous to remember this, but Pompeii seemed to me a warehouse of dust and stones. What else could remain of the city after the eruption of the volcano? However, everything turned out to be completely wrong. Pompeii was a really big and beautiful city. During the eruption, the lava did not go in his direction, and therefore he only got stone rain and a storm of hot sand. Even now, a dead city captivates with its splendor. It houses, cobbled streets and the main square, public baths and market squares. Probably go on a tour of the ruins in comfortable shoes – for granted … but not for me. So, from my own experience I declare, put on sneakers and don’t even dare to think about Malomalsky heels. For several hours walking around Pompeii, we managed to admire the architecture of the buildings, be horrified by the martyrdom of the inhabitants and, having released the guide after an excursion, get lost among the many streets. It is good that there are enough rangers in the territory, the first of them happily told us where the exit is.
